Do you have a trip to Europe on your bucket list? The prospect of touring Europe is filled with excitement and anticipation. With so many countries, cultures and sights to explore, the options are only limited by your imagination. Follow these tips from the professional travel agents to jump start your travel planning and ensure that your trip to Europe is filled with positive memories that will last a lifetime.

The first step on your list should be to secure a passport. Applying for a new passport or renewing an existing passport can take up to three months to process – more in the busy spring season. Plan accordingly.  Many European countries will not allow entry unless you have at least ninety days remaining on your passport prior to expiration upon your ticketed departure from that country. Take a phot of your passport, save it and print a hard copy to leave at home in case of emergencies. It will be much easier to replace a lost or stolen passport with a recent photo showing the passport number and other critical information.

Check with your cell phone provider about international data plans. Without a plan, you’ll not have access to data unless you’re in an area that offers free wifi. Another option is to purchase a SIM card for your phone in each country that contains a set amount of data access.  Conform that your phone has a removable SIM card.

Next, order Euros from your bank. European countries are more cash economies than the United States.  Many smaller retailers and kiosks do not accept cash. You’ll appreciate having local currency upon arrival in Europe. While you can certainly exchange US dollars at train stations and airports, the exchange rate will be much less favorable than that from your US bank.

Finally, book your travel. Take advantage of the awesome deals offered for flights and accommodations using a Groupon coupon for bookings through Travelocity.  It’s recommended to book your overseas flight to one of the major European hubs such as London, Frankfurt or Paris for the best rates.
